The Sparkling Art Mobile is a 25 foot mobile gallery of my artwork and gift items...and I just love it! This past winter I drove that bad boy from my home in Reading, Pennsylvania and toured Florida with lots of cool stops along the way. I drove SAM on the beach, visited Army Bases, stayed with loved ones and spent many sunsets looking out over the ocean waters. It was lovely and my dream come true.
The Sparkling Art Mobile started as an idea for a solution to a problem. I was working too hard and needed to make it easier on myself. My frozen shoulder left me with one arm for over a year. It caused me such pain while I schlepped my wares from show to show in my little 8ft Atlas trailer and 2009 Ford Escape...4 cylinder...nice. I'm lucky my tranny didn't kick the bucket leaving me along side of the road anywhere between PA and Florida. So as I sat in my Thinking Chair early in the morning sipping coffee, the thought came to me. "How wonderful would it be if I didn't have to set up my stuff?" Oh my goodness, what a relief just the thought of it was! I had tried it with the trailer with some success, but it was too much work converting my tiny aluminum can from a rolling store to adequate storage for my outdoor show tents and all the crap that goes with it.
So, that was the start of my mission...I must find something. Something that I can display my large paintings in, store enough stock for wholesale trips and stow away all of my show paraphernalia with out straining my once stubborn to stay in one position shoulder. Something I could walk through without knocking my forehead, throwing out my back or permanently injuring a shop owner by taking out an eye. Something I could camp in overnight safely during the summer months without fear that would be similar to a convection oven broasting turkey. What kind of vehicle would meet all my neediness? Where would I find it? How could I afford it? How can I drive it? Oh my gosh...all the questions. That was two years ago.
